Killing the Negative by Tulsa Artist Fellowship and Joel Daniel Phillips at Hashimoto Contemporary Los Angeles
October 9, 2021 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present renowned draftsman Joel Daniel Phillips’ latest body of work highlighting his first publicly available oil paintings. This is the gallery’s inaugural exhibition in Los Angeles and the artist’s debut solo exhibition in Los Angeles.
Elaborating on his Killing the Negative series, the Tulsa-based artist’s solo exhibition will include his signature graphite drawings and a selection of oil paintings. Grappling with power, race, class, and stratified socio-economic issues, the ongoing body of work is a meditative response to a selection of Government censored photographs commissioned by the Farm Security Administration (FSA) during the Great Depression.
