VIRTUAL REAL TALK Black & Brown and COVID All Over – Presented by The Woody Guthrie Center, Tri-City Collective, Tulsa Artist Fellowship, and the Black Wall Street Times.
February 27, 2021 @ 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
The pandemic is one year old and over half a million U.S. citizens have died. The nation’s COVID-19 infection rate, as well as Oklahoma’s, are trending downward after a brutal winter surge of the pandemic. The reduced infections may be credited to the availability of the vaccine. But, for Black and Indigenous folks-two of the pandemic’s hardest hit communities-the willingness to accept the vaccine may take more convincing than other groups. The federal government’s history of medical experiments and forced sterilization of Black and Indigenous people fails to engender confidence in the vaccine. Join us as we engage in conversation with two Black nurses and a Muskogee school administrator to examine the many ways COVID-19 has and will likely continue to disrupt every facet of our lives.
