VIRTUAL REAL TALKFOOD FIGHT:
Discussing Food Insecurity and Its SolutionsAccording to the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) food-at-home (store-bought grocery) prices increased 3.5 percent in 2021 and is expected to increase more in 2022. A recent New York Times article attributes this to supply chain issues, adverse weather patterns, high energy prices, and various social geopolitical economic factors further intensified and destabilized by the ongoing pandemic. Added to this is the decades-long issue of low-access areas to nutritious food, also known as food deserts. In short, hunger can affect anyone. According to Feeding America, more than 38 million people, including 12 million children, in the United States are food insecure and this is especially prevalent among families with children, communities of color, and rural communities. Join us Saturday, February 19th at 2:00 pm CST, as we explore food insecurity, it’s societal impact, policy action, and multi-scaled innovative solutions to this ongoing issue.Saturday, February 19, 2022
